Modern Farmer premieres article profiling my studio and home
“If you listen back to my last three or four records,” says Fritch, “you might hear Siri hammering metal, Verde scratching at the door, or a bedlam of roosters the next farm over trying to harmonize like a middle school choir. But I don’t mind if those make it in. In a way, I find those sounds more enjoyable than what I’m making.”

SPIN premieres video for Death Blues' "Languaging"
You've almost undoubtedly heard the ethereal yet visceral work of the men who comprise Death Blues. Project founder Jon Mueller is an integral member of Justin Vernon's Volcano Choir (and before that, Collections of Colonies of Bees), while William Ryan Fritch has worked with names as diverse and respected as Sole and DM Stith. On the new album, Ensemble, they combine their multi-instrumentalist might to create a hulking, high-drama sound.
Death Blues Ensemble Out Now!
Death Blues 'Ensemble' streaming at NPR
Death Blues Ensemble, the collaborative record I made with the amazing Jon Mueller (Volcano Choir) is now up for PRE-ORDER through Rhythmplex. It is undoubtedly the most expansive and powerful record I have ever been a part of, and the thousands of hours spent bringing it to fruition over the last two and a half years profoundly reshaped me as an artist and composer.
Ensemble comes packaged as a deluxe 16pp hardback full color book with a 140 gm LP mastered by Jeff Lipton and Maria Rice at Peerless Mastering. The audio download that comes with the Ensemble book/LP also includes two exclusive tracks not available on the standard digital version. Essays by Stacy Blint, Faith Coloccia, Brent Gohde, Sally Haldorson, Chris Koelle, Tom Lecky, and David Ravel.
Annie Silverstein's excellent short film Skunk has won the Cinéfondation Selection 1st prize at Cannes 2014. It was a joy to get to work on the music for it and make a score that emerged from the sounds of cicadas and the sweltering environment where it was filmed.
Aled Ordu, who recently filmed a short documentary on my music and process, has put together a little teaser for my new EP Emptied Animal using some of the film's footage.
